Munttoren Amsterdam is an iconic structure that stands over the city, offering a beautiful view of one of the most historic cities in Europe. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, it was built between 1618 and 1620 by Hendrick de Keyser and was modeled on the tower in the city of Utrecht. It is also known as "The Old Mint" due to its history as a minting house where coins were made until 1983. The tower has four levels, each of which is decorated with sculptural elements reflecting Amsterdam’s trading past. These include representations of ships, windmills and merchant characters. Today, the Munttoren Amsterdam serves mainly as a tourist destination for visitors looking to take in its grandeur from atop or inside its walls. Despite its age, it remains one of Amsterdam's best-known landmarks and is considered an important part of its identity. As such, it has been designated as a national monument since 1970, making it one of many cultural treasures to be found in this vibrant city.
